Open Cosmos, the UK based space company delivering satellite infrastructure, connectivity and real time intelligence, has closed a €300M ($348.6M) Series C round. The round was led by investors on the continent, with participation from Lightrock, ETF Partners, Institut Català de Finances (ICF) and Entrepreneurs First.
That detail matters. European investors have historically been willing to back early-stage startups, but support for companies looking to scale up has lagged behind. In 2025, not a single growth stage funding round was led by a European private investor, according to a report from the European Space Policy Institute released in May.
A track record, not a pitch
Open Cosmos, founded by CEO @Rafel Jorda Siquier is one of the continent’s fastest growing satellite manufacturers, with five consecutive years of profitable growth, mission success in orbit and $370 million+ in signed customer contracts over the past three and a half years. Its four factories across Europe can produce one satellite a day, and its ~400 staff in the UK, Spain, Portugal and Greece serve European governments, space agencies and commercial companies.
A New Space company in traditional space territory
What makes this round notable is where Open Cosmos is competing. First came Earth Observation with the OpenConstellation. Now comes Satellite Communications with ConnectedCosmos, a secure communications constellation in LEO using a gatewayless space mesh routed using optical intersatellite links. Within two months of securing access to Liechtenstein’s priority Ka-band spectrum filings, the first ConnectedCosmos satellites were already in orbit. Leveraging ConnectedCosmos, the OpenConstellation can cut EO intelligence delivery from up to 48 hours to as little as 30 minutes.
Both EO and satcom were long the domain of established primes. A New Space company establishing itself in both, with profitable growth and European capital behind it, is exactly the kind of sovereign, scalable infrastructure Europe has said it wants.
Where the money goes
The funding will expand the four manufacturing facilities and grow the engineering, manufacturing and software teams across the UK, Spain, Portugal and Greece. The number of satellites manufactured per day will increase to complete the global ConnectedCosmos constellation.
The signal to the market is clear: with signed customer contracts and consistent profitable growth, European investors do fund space at scale.
