Building Africa’s Space Economy: Attending Kenya Space Innovation & Investment Forum and the African Space Generation Workshop

The Kenya Space Innovation and Investment Forum (KSIIF) 2025, themed “Unlocking the Value of Space Technologies for Economic Transformation” will bring together Kenya’s space community and take place from 9 to 10 December 2025 alongside the SGAC 9th African Space Generation Workshop (AF-SGW), where I am invited as a panellist. The Forum will also host the annual Africa Earth Observation Challenge (AEOC) 2025 final pitching event, in recognition of the central role that young innovators and young professionals in the African space ecosystem play in mainstreaming and leveraging space technologies for Africa’s scientific, technological, and socioeconomic advancement. The event will be held at the Edge Convention Centre in Nairobi, Kenya.

The objective of the forum is to build synergies among stakeholders on the use of space technologies for socio-economic development and to accelerate the adoption of space-based solutions that drive innovation and growth. One of the challenges the forum aims to address is investor and private sector participation in the space ecosystem. There is also a focus on driving innovation and entrepreneurship in the use of Earth Observation (EO) data for impact across Africa. Finally, the forum aims to enhance public awareness and engagement.

The event is organized by @Viffa Consult in partnership with the Kenya Space Agency (KSA), the Research Institute for Innovation and Sustainability (RIIS), the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (UK-FCDO), Women in Space Kenya (WISK), and the Space Generation Advisory Council (SGAC).

The Forum will convene key stakeholders from government, academia, private space industry players, development partners, startups, and innovators from Kenya and the region to explore the utility of space technologies in accelerating the realization of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the attainment of Africa Agenda 2063, and Kenya’s Bottom-up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA). The Forum seeks to promote innovation and investment in the space ecosystem as critical drivers for Kenya’s and Africa’s emerging New Space start-ups that will contribute to the region’s developing space economy and could drive economic transformation.
